Microsoft Office XP and Word, Excel or PowerPoint 2003 program user -  first from  Microsoft Update  to install all high-priority updates,  and then download the Compatibility Pack .

If you have Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP or Office 2003, install the Compatibility Pack can be used after the new version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats Open, edit, and save the file. This Compatibility Pack can also work with Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 used in combination with these new formats to view files saved. Note:  If you are using Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft Word 2002 to read or write documents containing complex scripts, see Knowledge Base article  925451 , learn how to work in your version of Word correctly display the new Word documents.

System Administrator:  Compatibility Pack contains  Word, Excel, and PowerPoint converters Administrative Template is also available for download.

Update:  Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack has been updated to contain SP2. In addition, installing the Compatibility Pack update, if. DOCX or. DOCM files containing custom XML tags, you use Word 2003 to open a file will remove these marks.
